About Olaniyi

A Journey of Determination, Inclusion, and Community

On June 21, 2026, Maria Dela Vega and Olaniyi proudly joined hundreds of participants at the Princess Margaret Foundation Journey Walk, coming together to support cancer research while celebrating the power of community, inclusion, and hope.

What began as a 3-kilometre walk became a day filled with encouragement, personal achievement, and meaningful connections.

From the moment the event began, the atmosphere was electric. Families, friends, volunteers, and supporters gathered with a shared purpose, creating a welcoming environment where everyone felt they belonged. Among them were Maria and Olaniyi, ready to embrace the journey together.

Olaniyi’s determination was evident from the very first step. With confidence and enthusiasm, he completed the first kilometre on foot, inspiring everyone around him with his perseverance and positive spirit. For the remainder of the walk, he transitioned to his wheelchair and continued toward the finish line with the same unwavering determination, proving that every journey is defined by courage—not by the way we travel.

Throughout the route, Maria and Olaniyi were met with cheers, smiles, and words of encouragement from fellow participants, volunteers, and spectators. Simple conversations quickly turned into meaningful connections, reminding everyone that events like the Journey Walk are about far more than crossing a finish line—they are about supporting one another, building community, and celebrating every person’s accomplishments.

One of the highlights of the day was the incredible dedication of the event volunteers. Their kindness, enthusiasm, and willingness to help ensured that everyone could fully participate and enjoy the experience. Whether offering directions, providing encouragement, or sharing a friendly smile, they made a lasting impact. Before long, they had become Maria and Olaniyi’s own cheering squad, motivating them every step—and every wheel rotation—along the way.

Crossing the finish line together was a proud and emotional moment. Completing the 3-kilometre walk was an achievement worth celebrating, but the experience represented so much more. It was a reminder of what is possible when people are supported, included, and encouraged to reach their goals.

For Maria, one of the most rewarding parts of the day was watching Olaniyi challenge himself with confidence and determination. His resilience, positive attitude, and willingness to embrace every moment inspired not only those around him but everyone who had the opportunity to witness his journey. His accomplishment is a powerful reminder that strength comes in many forms, and every milestone deserves to be celebrated.

At New Visions Toronto, we believe that community participation creates opportunities for growth, confidence, and meaningful connections. Experiences like the Princess Margaret Foundation Journey Walk demonstrate how inclusive events can empower people to achieve personal goals while fostering friendships and a true sense of belonging.

As Maria and Olaniyi reflected on the day, they returned home with far more than the satisfaction of completing a walk. They carried with them new memories, new friendships, and the encouragement of an entire community that celebrated their success. It was a day filled with compassion, perseverance, and hope—a beautiful reminder that when communities come together, anything is possible.
